Also... I reasons I went with CFB hatchery are 1) they had my not so common Jersey Giants. 2) they are NPIP certified. 3) guarantee true to breed and health 4) vaccinate for Mareks... and aren’t crazy far from Wisconsin as I worry about shipping stress... although also not right next door... just not crazy far.
This is my first flock so there is so much uncharted territory for me.
Hello! My JG pullets are WONDERFUL! Healthy, lovely birds. I had one rooster in the mix... that I had to give away as he grew so huge and sexually matured earlier than the pullets. He was doing physical (leg injuries from being squished) and emotional harm to the girls... from a human standpoint he was calm enough for me to pick him up... but the girls were a wreck. They are so much happier and calmer with him out of the picture.I’m curious how things turned out for you? I just got chicks from them 3 weeks ago. I ordered pullets but I’m pretty sure I got quite a few cockerels.
I shouldn’t say not a peep.. not a loud peep... they chortle and “burrwup wup wup” like normal chickens... I do have to go looking for them when they free range as they’re so quiet ha ha.Hello! I do want a JG rooster in the future... but will introduce a young roo to my then mature flock as to keep him from doing harm.
I am in love with this breed...they started laying earlier than I expected (I expected them to mature slower, but they were right in line with regular breeds and started at about 17 weeks.) Also they are much quieter than I expected... only singing an egg song... otherwise not a peep. I just love them so much.
That’s good to hear. I’m really worried about 5 out of the 9 Pullets I ordered. Two Easter Eggers have passed up my favorite EE in size and their feet are huge. My 2 barred rocks and my GLW have red popping up in comb and wattles at 3 weeks. I can’t have roosters and I will be devastated trying to rehome that many roosters. I know it’s too early to tell but I’m a little worried.I shouldn’t say not a peep.. not a loud peep... they chortle and “burrwup wup wup” like normal chickens...
