chickens for eggs

One. When laying well, a good laying hen lays about 6 a week, but she won't do this all year. She will stop laying when she molts, which is about once a year and may take 2 or 3 months. She may stop in the winter when days are short. There are several other things that may stop her from laying for a while, such as fear if a predator is constantly hanging around, the shock of a change such as a move, going broody, etc.

! Great to have you here. Hens don't need roosters to lay eggs so the basic answer to your question is one chicken. However, chickens don't do well alone so you need a minimum of two chickens. An average hen will lay 4 eggs per week. How many eggs do you need per week?
