chickens going in nesting box for 30 or so minutes and not laying

They lay eggs under my cabinet. I leave my door open so they can come and go as they please when they want to lay because they won't lay anywhere else. They will cry at my door until I let them in. But I noticed I felt like I was short some eggs even though I have 3 dozen in the fridge. And a few times when my chicken comes out of the nesting box there aren't any eggs in there! :l

That's pretty normal. where are you located? How old are your hens?

Yes, normal for a hen to go into nest but not lay.....
