Chickens=Good Mood

I firmly believe that my new chickens have saved lives this week. I had a really bad 2 weeks on the school bus, but I came home and watched Chicken TV...... all is good with the world again

When I first fell in love with the bundles of peeps at the chicken swaps, it immediately lifted my mood

I grew up being a rodent owner and my beloved blue rat had just passed three months prior to a brain tumor at about 3 years old. I was grieving pretty hard since he was SO smart and wonderful. I don't think I can live without nurturing animals!

The girls have been so awesome. Every time I see them I can't help but feel better

In fact, one of them is wheeking at me and wants more hugs! They're just tremendously sweet lapsitters. (And I'm a crazy chickensmooching/hugging kind of guy...

It's wonderful waking up. As soon as they hear me from the other room, they all assemble in a row and squat to greet me while I'm stumbling about towards the bathroom. They wait all silently for me to get into the living room (where the coop is), then I tell 'em I'm getting their food, hurrying about and then it's all happy noises again.

Then they want more hugs before I leave for work and when I get home, all flock around me for more hugs and fresh water. My silkie hybrid's newest thing is walking out of the coop, inspecting the kitchen, gobbling up tasties I didn't know about then coming back to me.

Chickens are just so perfect in every way as a pet. They're clean, easy to keep, cheap to start up, cheap to maintain, come in awesome colors, never fail to amaze you with their alien anatomy, make awesome huggers, make all sorts of cool ambient noises, and make you breakfast!

No kidding! It brightens my whole day to see beaks on the ground and tails in the air. I love the way they murmur when they have a project. And I've yet to meet a chicken lover I don't like too

I am just a few days old with this whole chicken thing 3 to be exact, but yesterday morning when my 1 week old chick caught a moth, and ran like crazy from the other five, I laughed so hard I got hiccups! I can't wait for the fun to continue

i work crazy stressful 12 hr days. often, it's midnight when i get home... but i always go out to the coop and sit there. it eases the mind. might just have to string the hammock up out there, bet i'd sleep like a baby.

I agree with all!

I had a pretty bad evening yesterday and after coming here to boo-hoo about it, I sat on the kitchen floor and played with my 6 newest baby girls. They were a terrific reminder that life goes on and they still need me. They lifted my spirits and the sadness dissipated.

I can't wait to get out to the coop every morning to see what new antics my older girls have in store for me. Someone once asked me, "What the heck do you do out there all day?!" All I could do was smile and give a little wink as if I had some big secret....if they only knew....

Chicken Therapy...woulda thunk it?

cheaper than a shrink! I have become a MUCH happier person since owning my birds! Even Dh is on board with me now coming up with creative ideas for their homes...happy wife..HAPPY LIFE!!!

100% same here.....I've been sick since Tues....Could hardly get off of bed, but good luck stoping me from going to see my girls!!! They actually made me get up and feel better!
