Chickens have stopped laying

Can I help my chickens? I've only had chickens for 7 months and We lost 1 of our 4 chickens last week, don't let me relive that trauma! I have always had 4 eggs every day. Now I am getting one. All my chickens seem ok - eating well although the coop is quieter since Gertie died. Is this normal when one chicken dies? Should I be doing something else?

I am sorry for your loss - -do you know how Gertie died? Knowing what caused her death will help to narrow the possible causes of what you are seeing in your other birds.

We found Gertie under the bush at the back with only feathers around. I read BYC and put her in a quiet warm dark place but she died & I do miss her because she was the boss of the pack. Good news though yesterday I had 2 eggs - although one was a funny colour and today 3. So they are all laying again. Maybe they'd been traumatised a bit?
Lucky I got 3 eggs today as my son accidentally pulled the pantry door off its hinges while scratching for his food and the door fell on the eggs in the cupboard!!
