I wish I lived closer to Iowa! They sure are good looking birds! I always feel bad for all the roos out there! They have such a hard time finding homes and they are so handsome and a lot of them can be very friendly!Oh Dear, My beautiful BLR Wyandotte Roo started to crow for the first time this morning. I have three of them about 11 weeks old and knew they were going to need a new home soon, but I've been trying to hang on as long as possible. They are the sweetest boys ever! Now I'm frantically trying to find a safe home where they will not be dinner.
If you know anyone near Iowa that would be willing to take them, please let me know.
I love the trickery with the eggs. Made me LOL so hard my DH wanted to know what was going on. He may not notice the chicks but he will notice when they are bigger HAHA!!!!!
I have 4 1 month old chicks and my big ones will not leave them alone. I have to sit outside and monitor them because the big ones peck at the little ones too. I think when they hatch, your broody hens will keep any others from pecking the new ones. Keep fingers crossed!
Picasso Chicks are beautiful! almost sounds like a new breed. We are allowed to have 30 hens here, but i only have 12. our yard is partially fenced, but i have fenced in an area just for the chickens. that way the kids dont have to worry about stepping in chicken bombs,![]()
but it doesnt seem to matter because they love the chickens and end up spending more time in that part of the yard! My neighbors have not said anything to me at this point. The only thing I would like them to say is "Can I have some eggs?" or "I love your chickens" LOL
I was hoping that by the time the soon to be chicks are bigger they'll blend in with the chicks that are a month older and if he mentions anything about numbers I'll act like thats how many there have always been, "It just looks like more because they've grown so much. I told you how many I was getting after I ordered them, remember? I swear you never pay attention to a word I say to you!"

I'm definitely going to separate all the newbies from the oldies after the incident the other day! I don't want to have to worry about anyone getting picked on, not until they're big enough to hold their own at least!
I can't wait to see what the picasso chicks will look like! Maybe I'll start a new line of banty chickens! LOL.
My kids love to hang out with the chickens too! And I know all about chicken bombs! That's why I have to keep the big hens in their yard. The banties fly like birds so there's no keeping them in the fence but they're so tiny they don't make much mess. We kept ducks for awhile and boy o boy you want to talk about some bombs! We ended up trading them for the banties because of it!
