Chickens I Want!

I already have three chickens. Nothing special to look at, but one gives me lovely green eggs. Waiting to hatch are some pekin bantams, and I have just set some Marans (for the lovely dark eggs) and some lovely pot luck Silkies. I am also liking the look of Polish and Frizzles.
Even the ugly ones are still fun to watch! And sometimes the ones that aren't much to look at can be the friendliest! Have you had silkies long? Do you like having them? They sure are neat looking! And what are pekin bantams? Are they ducks or is there a pekin chicken too?

Ohhh.... don't get me started. Yep, every day I come up with yet another breed I have to have! Right now I have favorelles and cochins, but in the future.... tolbunt polish, blue laced red wyandotte, lavender orpington, anything blue, anything frizzled, d'uccles.... the list can go on and on, really.

I am still working on finishing building one coop, but have already drawn up plans for another that will be good for breeding. Now I just need the funds for building materials, chickens, incubators....

Yep, it's an addiction.

Hi! I LOVE CHICKENS TOO!!!

I only started last year and at first was happy to have a mixed flock. I kept adding a chicken every few weeks and now my mixed flock consists of
* lavender aracuana rooster
* 2 x millefleur pekin (cochins)
* 1 x black star
* 1 x silkie (with her own easter egger chicks!)
* 1 x maran x pekin (cochin)
* 1 x buff orpington

Now I have gotton crazy over polish! I have bought and set up a seperate pen for them and have put my two existing frizzle polish bantams in, they are soon to be joined by 3 white and 2 chamois polish chicks (only 3 weeks old atm!). Then I want to get started on my silkies. I really want some splash silkies and have already got another coop ready for them. My other half doesn't know any of my plans!!! He avoids the garden since the aracuana rooster likes to peck his feet when he walks past!

Yes I live in the city. No roosters. $250 fine. T-T My cat luckily keeps all the cats away from my hens. He loves the girls as much as I do. Kinda weird but hey! At least someone agrees with me about their cuteness.
I have 6 chickens. It is the limit unless I get written consent from my neighbors then I can have ten.
2 blue Cochin hens
4 Cochin chicks a barred, a gold laced, a partridge, and a silver laced
All LF
I want to sneak in a bantam but I don't know if the standards will pick on her or not...
I have one neighbor that brings me bread for the girls and i give him eggs and dinners. His dog makes me nervous.
I live right by a college campus and another lady a block away has a flock of chickens. So a very welcoming community except one military guy across the street. Chicken hater. He's why I can't have 10. Some people....
Right now the girls sleep in an a frame and free roam my yard and rock wall. I'm planning on getting a big coop built with a nice run because of the curious dog. She broke her post the other morning and was trying to get into the yard! Scary. My cat can defend against other cats but a German Shepard is a whole different kind of ball game.

The silkies are in the incubator right now. Cross everything one hatches, or six preferably)

We call them Pekin bantams in the UK. You may call them something else. Here are some pictures in the link. Enjoy.

How sweet that your cat takes care of the girls! I've got 12 cats (most are barn cats, I'm not a crazy cat lady! Well maybe a little!) and they all keep their distance from the chickens unless I'm throwing scraps out, then they get right in the chicken yard and try to steal the tasty bits between pecks. But they aren't afraid of chicks, I lost a few last year to them. I'm taking precautions this year tho! We've got a german shepard/lab mix and he's actually the one that protects the chickens. He stays out by the coop and keeps predators scared away.It's a pain having to worry about other animals getting your chickens!
Too bad about that one crabby neighbor! It just figures! My mom always told me to kill them with kindness but I think some people just like to be crabby.
I don't know how to go about introducing a bantam with standards. When I got my banties the big girls picked on them horribly for months. They all get along now but it had me worried for a long while. Maybe your cochins would be motherly toward a little one tho, I've heard they make good mothers. You sound like you've got a nice color variety of them! l bet they make a pretty picture poking about out in the sunshine!

I just got my wife blue orpingtons. This brings us to Buff Orpingtons, RIR, Bared Rocks, Amauricana, Serama, and African Geese (I know, they are not chickens). We keep them all seperated, so until i build another pen she can wish all she wants but she is fi nished for a while.

Everything is crossed! Best of luck with your hatch! You should post some pics when they hatch!
Cochins! I'd never heard them called pekin! Obviously I guess since I'm not from UK :) I just noticed in that post above tho she put cochin in ( ) next to pekin. I should have looked harder :) I just love fat, fluffy chickens!

:( I sold/give on most all of them but I did get to keep a few and I'm happy that I do have them I had 5 chickens but 2 past away on me.
