Chickens in a coop & eggs on a face (he he)

Doesn't it seem like all the days just start to run together every now and then? We all agree it was the 14th and that has to count for something.

At least they have an option to move about :)

Sometimes in winter, the birds DO NOT have the option of moving around, especially if there is deep snow on the ground. Then, they will just sit tight in their coop. And that coop better be properly designed, and big enough for the number of birds in it. Otherwise, things can get kinda ugly, fairly quick.

I got the impression that it was a warmer climate there so maybe there is no threat of snow. I wasn't trying to pick a fight with you I meant at least they didn't have to sit in there all day. There is a fenced in yard with plenty of roosts. I'm sure if its necessary he will add additional coop space.

The O.P. states(In another post) that he gets temps into the single digits in winter. He believes the coop is go to go, as is.
Also, I didn't think you were picking a fight. We are just having a conversation, no problems here.

I stand corrected. I never saw his other posts. I just assumed (should have learned by now) that it was warmer by the pictures. I thought it was a desert haha woops

I think this is what the OP is failing to take into consideration. Without going through the entire other thread to verify, I don't recall anyone saying that the chickens "won't" go into the coop, which seems to be what the OP is concentrating on in this particular post. Of course they'll go in, BUT they will be overcrowded on those winter days when they don't want to be outside all day long, and they all, or even some of them, are squeezed into that small space, with nothing to do except pick on each other.

I re-read the original post - and the OP does say "coops" - suggesting there might be more than one 8x8 coop? It looked like the run was divided in half and there *might* be another coop on the other side. However - I did count 10 chickens on the side of the first coop.

With an 8' x 8' coop, wouldn't that be enough for 16 chickens WITH access to a proper run (4 sq. ft per chicken), or 6-7 chickens with no run (10 sq. ft. per bird)? I'm just asking for my own education - not to question the OP.

That's if the OP mean 8' x 8'. I'm not sure what "8 square foot floor plan" means. Do you think his coop is only 4' x 2' (which is what it looks like with him standing next to it)? As in, only big enough for two chickens?

My real question is, if the OP gets a proper winter, how does the netting hold up with snow? I'd be terrified of it collapsing and smothering the birds (but I'm inexperienced with snow, so maybe that's an irrational fear).
