Chickens in Florida?

Hello all! My name is Darlene.

I am a country-girl at heart and own all kinds of animals currently…. but we are planning a move from our home in Minnesota to Florida by the Fall and I am nervous and want to educate myself about what is required to keep my chickens in Florida. I may just start all over, of course, but I want to be successful with my coup there in that climate etc.
I am hoping to find some Florida friends to help me.

Hi Darlene, say hi over on the FL state thread and I'm sure you can get lots of help there: Florida One thing you'll want to take into consideration when building a coop is how hot it gets here...an open air coop may be best.

We’re also likely to move to FL in the next few years (from Atlanta) and was wondering the same thing. Particularly what one would do in the event of a tropical storm or hurricane.
