She's actually incredibly sweet and allows full handling of both herself and her young with zero difficulty. I wish all my hens were as nice as her

She's actually a Central Asian Shepherd, though I can see the resemblance a bit. Sorry to hear that about your neighbors, that sounds like hell

Had an isabrown surprisingly go broody a few weeks ago. Her eggs are now hatching, 8 eggs from another homestead and 1 from here. First baby to hatch looks like an Easter Egger x RIR mix, second looks like a pure red

Currently up to 17 babies so far this spring, with 17 more eggs still waiting to hatch

She came out today. 7/10 eggs hatched nicely, last three failed to develop for whatever reason.
Looks like 4 EE/RIR, 2 RIR, 1 mega mutt
(50% RIR, 25% AGF, 12.5% Sumatra, 6.25% Ameraucana, 3.125% Brahma, 3.125% Orpington)

The isabrown mom rejected her black baby. Even in the last photo I notice now that the baby seems to be scared and standing away from her. Anytime it got too close yesterday she would peck at it and drive it away

After about an hour of hoping the isabrown would accept the baby (and being disappointed repeatedly) my wife placed the baby in front of a game hen broody with week-old babies of her own. The game hen clucked to the baby and accepted it under her wing, despite fully knowing it was a strange baby

They've been happily off in the forest all day today where it's very hard to photograph them

It was a mistake letting a production hen hatch babies. The isabrown also abandons her young and runs away when my dog gets too close, unlike this heroic game hen here that will fight anything off it doesn't want around

An "isabrown". I think they're a mixture of RIR and leghorn but supposedly the exact mix of breed is secret. They make terrible moms evidently but good layers

Wow, thank you! You wouldn't believe how many hours I spent trying to find out what breed she was. Our feed store told us she was a prairie bluebell egger, but she didn't look like one.
