Chickens in nature

It got a big laugh! šŸ˜†

Anything to spare the audience the dreaded Death by Powerpoint.

I also played the video of the woman imitating her rooster's hawk warning call. We all enjoyed the befuddled duck and geese at the end:
Definitely need to learn that screech! A couple of times I've turned on the mic on the coop cam and said something (like "Hey, stop chasing Helen!") and they all scream and run into the coop to hide.

Parts of thread may be of value to you. I have dogs to keep most of bad guys you deal with away from nests.

Thread 'Elevated Nest to Make Viewing Easier From Window'

I'll have a look at that. We have two dogs, but one is a coonhound and one an Aussie/Beagle mix and I don't think for a second they wouldn't go after the chickens. I'm going to have to figure out work-arounds without getting more dogs.

The neighbors-over-the-back-fence who had the giant inflatable castle thingy at the birthday party apparently allowed someone to give their kid a recorder.

He tried it out this afternoon, multiple times, and it sounded a lot like I would imagine a dying bird to sound.

My girls have had races to see who can reach their run (and safety) first.

Like the old joke goes, ā€œHow do you get to Carnegie Hall?ā€ ā€œPractice, practice, practice.ā€ Here’s hoping he puts it aside pretty quickly. šŸ¤žšŸ»šŸ¤žšŸ»šŸ¤žšŸ»

Half my dogs the time of that thread were German short hair pointers. They were my main guardians. You do some dog training.

I understand training is possible. But I also know that I work full-time and I cannot add extra hours into my day to train dogs. I’m just not going to let my dogs out. Since they are both scent hounds, they will catch a scent and run and not look back. The last time they got out, we found them 5 miles away.

I gave it a shot away from the chickens and startled the dogs.

I wouldn’t worry excessively about pointers, setters, or retrievers. I would definitely worry about hounds.

Love them to death, but they are bred to hunt small creatures. One killed a poor possum that got into the fenced back yard this weekend. On the upside, the cats have learned not to mess with the chickens. Kitty ( the Cinnamon Queen) gave Cowboy a peck, he batted at her, she flapped him in the face and he ran like his tail was on fire.
