I have been around chickens most of my life. My mom always kept some, and i still have a small flock, for eggs and also because there is something about having chickens in your yard. Watching them scratch and chase bugs, taking dust baths, how they interact with each other. They have there own personalities, and can easily become a pet. Keeping chickens is a challenge as EVERYTHING EATS CHICKEN is a fact. I have encountered almost every chicken eating critter known to Northern Michigan. I love broody hens with there baby chicks, my gentle rooster strutting around and looking out for his harrem of girls and gathering those eggs every day. My favorite breeds would be silver grey dorking and specked sussex. I have right now a mixed breed flock if 12 hens and 1 rooster.
