So, I just finished replacing the sill plate on my whole barn due to subterranean termites.

I called in a pest service to take a look at putting down Termador (fipronil) to kill the colony and prevent re-infestation.

The problem is that the chicken run shares one wall with the barn, and the termite company wants to trench through the chicken run.

They insist that it will be safe, but I wanted to get some other opinions. My worry is that the chickens will dig up the trench and become exposed to the fipronil.

Thoughts?

Chickens do dig holes for dust baths. I have no idea how long it persists in the environment. We used that for carpenter ants and it is so potent- it worked so fast. I wouldn't want my chickens to ingest it or get it on them.

I had the empty box on a desk and a carpenter ant found the box and was hanging around it. We never had them up on the desk before. I don't think the termites would have a hard time finding it if you put it outside the chicken run on the other side?? Carpenter ants are very attracted to it, is what I am saying. So I would imagine the termites are too.

Really I have no idea but I wouldn't allow that in my chicken pen. I hope this helps.
