Chickens in Richlands NC

I live in a new subdivision and we have a covenance but no HOA. We are not in the city and I have checked the zoning and ordinance for my area and we are allowed to have chickens but the covenance says no poultry. which should I follow. I just got some chicks and I know some of my neighbors are good with it but some are worried it is going to smell and be an eye sore. What should I do?

Have you found out anything? I am in Richlands as well and as far as I know I do not have a covenance in my hood but I want to be sure I have the ammo I need if anyone raises a stink about my 6 chicks that are about 4 weeks old now. You can PM me if you want. Also, have you heard of the facebook group for folks like us around here? I can let you know about it if not.
