I am probably going to get in a lot of trouble from hubby when he gets home, but I don't really care

We are sitting at 106 right now in Philomath with 3 hours left to go until we hit our high of the day. That is unheard of here in the valley

My flock of 30 chickens are residing in the garage (lol the side where my husband usually parks his car) till this heat wave breaks in a couple days. I have been keeping them iced for a couple days now with fans and also misted, but I couldn't keep up today. I went through 10 bags of ice in less than an hour. Their coop is literally an oven and the dirt is so hot in the run. I was afraid of losing one or more of my girls, especially the bigger breeds that have been suffering really bad in this heat. And seriously, there is nothing in the garage they can harm or get into, so why not? It can all be swept out, wiped down and hosed cleaned.

Anyone else do crazy chicken mom stuff like this?

Just tell husband to do the math at the cost of losing your chickens to the heat. Not only the cost of buying these 30 chickens but cost to replace - so you are actually saving money by putting them on his side of the garage. If that doesn't work may be suggest some evening shopping for an air conditioner. I'm seriously considering one since its 111+ here today in California.

We use the 7" re-usable ice blocks for my chickens and they LOVE LOVE them. We made a chicken cooler out of any old wine barrel and we need to make another one since all 10 are trying to fit in there at once.

Just bring them on over! We'll deal with his wrath after the heat subsides

We just hit 108 here in Philomath with a heat index of 110. It's insane!

That is a great idea about the chicken cooler. I'll have to look into that. This heat wave took us kind of by storm here in the valley. They said it was going to be hot, but I don't think any of us knew it would be this hot. Just like you, this is way too hot. Lol just last Saturday at Home Depot I said we should get a window A/C unit for the chicken coop. He mumbled something about 220 and walked away. Maybe after seeing his side of the garage tonight he'll go buy it for me
