Chickens in the rain!

I am not happy Erin,,,,just had some roof work started three days ago and it is covered with a tarp!!! Of all the times for it to pour like mad after all this time but that is just my luck. Yes, I know we needed it but I think at this point everyones gardens are toast!

I hear the both of you...My garden is a fried catastrophe...
I lost all my squashes and cukes and peppers and eggplants and I think my Lemon Verbena which I've wanted for years it kaput too.

Penny and Obelisk went out and came in looking like drowned rats...
I just leave the door open so they can come in when they get wet enough... of course muddy 3 toed footprints are a dead giveaway that they've been in the house.

We got twice as much today as we did all of last month...

Thank ya all for your replys! This is great! Sorry i didnt get back to everyone sooner...I work nights and just got home. I had my Mother sit in a chair by the coop till 7 ish or when they all go in for the night, and then call me with any news of distress. I must have called her 20 times and she said they seem to bee happy and fine. My poor mother, I think she deserves a nice day out to lunch.

It has been so long since we had rain here in the piedmont area of nc that my chickens would really think the sky was falling.LOL But my chickens seem to have a memory span of about 3 minutes, so they would get over it.

LOL, Julie, too funny. I can see my ducks chasing hail and eating it too. They LOVE the rain, and the only time I make them go in is if it's getting dark and I don't want to be out in the rain AND dark shutting their coop. (I haven't had hail here since I got them though.)

The chickens finally learned. I cover the open part of the coop to keep rain out, and let them run in/out under the tarp. If it rains hard, they usually go in. If it rains lightly, most of them will be out there in it playing. It's funny if there is sudden thunder though ... everyone makes a mad dash into the coop then.
