chickens in the rain

our chickens do that too .its a good thing we dont have turkeys theyd drown.our younger ones and our older hens just love the rain they like getting wet. we were joking about what they would do if we put out a kitty pool for them

I have hens that stay during the rain and I have hens that act like nothing is going on.

My grandpa had an old saying.

If the chickens stay in when it is raining it will not rain for long if they go out into the rain it will rain all day.

I've tested the old wives tale, doesn't seem to be any truth to it.

Mine experienced their first PNW (Seattle) rainstorm today. I opened their run & they all looked at me as if to say, "No way, Jose. We're staying here where it's dry."

Mine seem to love the rain! I get worried, though, in a heavy rain and I run out like a maniac gathering them up.

My parents had turkeys before I was born, and they stood out in the rain looking straight up my mom said and then they would get sick so they would have to make them swallow asperin. Or however you spell it.

Just to add a few cents. My chickens wouldn't go in the hen house last night while it rained. I put them in and they jumped back out. I forced them to at least go under it to get out of the rain and they just waited for me to leave. I went back out and found them each on one leg sleeping in the rain. I imagine whats cold to a human isn't cold to an animal so unless they get sick I'll let them do what they want.
