chickens in the rain

My chicks are only 6 weeks old. They're in a tractor and the whole thing is covered. They've only been out in the tractor for 3 days. I live in Coastal NC where it was 80 degrees and it's plenty warm. They'll be okay, right? Or should I bring them in?

They're fine. There was a thunderstorm as soon as mine went into their half-covered A-frame and they now walk around in it like nothing happened.

Sometimes my chickens don't like the rain and spend the entire time on our covered porch...other times they act like they don't even notice that it's raining. I guess it depends on how hungry for bugs they are.

We have hurricane Sandy here at the Maryland Eastern Shore. i build a nice shelter and double covered with tarps.

This morning what do i see, one of my hen standing right out of the shelter in open wind and rain.

Worried about her. i tried to persuade her to get in the shelter, but she wants to stand in the open rain. is this normal... hope she will not get cold.

Our flock free ranged all morning in the rains & winds from hurricane Sandy but after 6 hours are now hanging around in their dry coop with the door partially opened. The rain seems to clean their feathers from all the dust bathes lately!

Glad to read this thread! We are experiencing ex-tropical cyclone Oswald here in Brisbane, Queensland. My two are pretty happy to be out in the rain. One seems pretty waterproof and the water is just falling off her. The other is drenched and all matted. Neither seem to care. We don't have much outside Hester (not even a patio) but I have had a tarp over their coop for days so thy t lest have somewhere dry to go to and it seems to be doing a pretty good job!

We have had tornados up north in the last day and I'm petrified they will come here and scoop my girls up but unfortunately that is out of my control. Although, if they start happening around here I may just lock them in the bathroom for the night. We'll see what happens. ATM it's just heavy rain and wind.

I'm glad i saw this thread I felt bad for them even though the coop door is open. Did the thunder freak them out????

Will they get sick if they get soaked? I'm guessing not because so many people here posted, just concerned for my chicks that are 8-11 weeks old. It sprinkled this morning and they seemed to like it but it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow and I have work. They have plenty of shelter to get out of the wind and rain so I guess it's up to if they want to or not anyways.
