Pine straw, that is.

Been clearing out an area to widen our driveway so I moved a little less than 6 Gorilla carts of pine straw and related organic debris into the pen to fill holes and cover bare spots. I have happy ladies now, digging and scratching.

We're up to 7 carts now since DH did more raking this evening.

pine needles don't sound comforting at all - OUCH!!

Longleaf and Loblolly pine needles are long and flexible -- farmed and sold as "pine straw" for mulch. They're not as absorbent as shavings or wheat straw, but they're free for the raking.
