I have been fishin down at the inlet and out from DE coast, first doing the bait; nettin spot with dad, catchin soft crabs, rakin up sand fleas for stripers since I was just a little ****!
I even remember sitting aside the banks of the creeks up home in PA fishing for eels gagging on a cigar when I was 12 to keep the bugs away, someone needed to remind my FATHER I was a girl I think

Thanks I will tell him.
Well not sure how well you could catch one here but hubby days that they do and they are huge. Lol!!! But we can take you fishing.....it's super fun.
They are huge here, but you have to run about 70 miles offshore to get to blue water. Sailfish will come in closer in the spring and early summer, but the big pelagics hang out at the ledge where it drops from 200 to 800 feet, about 70 miles from Hilton Head. That's a long ride

Oh....that is sad. I can see how that would make you want to not go back. In alaska the ice is like 4 ft thick. We were able to drive on the lakes. Lol! They used to make large road ways for people to drive on to get from place to another. It's crazy. Lol.

Sorry about this long quote. Busy couple of days. Sick baby and no sleep for me. Then my 8 yr old son went to visit his dad and cut his foot open but dad just put a bandaid on it. Get a call from the school nurse that he needs medical attention asap. I knew it was to late for stitches but didn't want to look like a bad parent. Spent the day in the ER with a sick baby just to be told....it's to late for stitches! Great move dad! Anyway- SC, hope work eases up. And great pics Ross and Sally!
Congrats ruby! Good to see everyone so active! Sorry about the strom damage :( Sorry about Nugget :( I have been super busy hardly able to read here for my readin everywhere. You see what had happen was

This one landed yesterday in our neighbor's lawn, after almost touching the tops of our trees (in the background).
Awesome pics!!
Thanks, everyone... :hugs Too many to quote here too... and the great topper to the day was losing Burn, my blue fawn Call drake... It's days like these that make me wonder... :(
I didn't hear about Burn!! What the heck happened?
We are too afraid of ours to name it. above is it trying to attack my DW in her car. And below is a close up.
My 8 yr old is obsessed with black-capped chickadees! Don't think I'd show him the second pic, though. :gig
Thinking about the egg laying process while watching my brown egg laying hens... The darkest eggs, other than those early pullet eggs or post-molt eggs, seem to be those laid very early in the morning. It seems that those eggs are held longer in the "paint booth" and gather more pigment while waiting. Those laid midafternoon seem to be the lightest. All my production brown layers are same age, same variety...RIR x RIW. I wonder if there would be a benefit, where shell color is a critical factor, to select eggs from hens who consistently lay early in the day in addition to those who lay darker eggs. While these hens may not lay highly desirable color themselves, when bred to good color lines the pullets may lay darker eggs.
I thought it was just marans that have the "paint booth"? Do regular brown layers put a coating on their eggs?
Ok I just had the strangest thing happen. We bought a 100' roll of welded wire, 4' tall. It was laying rolled up in the back of the truck. I kept hearing something, and finally noticed that one of the hens had crawled into the center of the roll. At first, I was just taking pictures, until I realized she was stuck!! I think one of her wings got caught in a square inside the roll. Luckily, she's a nice girl and I was able to reach my arm up in the roll and free her wing, and push her forward. Then had to go to the other end, and keep freeing her feet as I pulled her out the other end. Crazy bird!
Oh man. Hope she's ok. Good thinking with the zip ties!
