chickens laying in the sun

Each day, when I get home from school I let both of my chickens out in the yard. They almost always will go out into the grass/sun and lay on their side and spread out their wings. They usually look 'dead'?! They are both about 7 weeks old...I"m hoping at least one will be a pullet. Is this common behavior?

Yes, chickens love to sunbathe.

My 5 week old pullets do the same thing. I wondered about it at first too but they all acted alright after they got off so I just pushed the worry aside because they still do it.

Yes it's normal, and even after a year and a half, it still freaks me out when I see them doing it.

glad it's normal because i caught one of ours stretched out on its side in the sun saturday. i thought it was dead until it moved when i got into its comfort zone.
