Hello everyone! After bringing some new chickens to the flock, there was a disruption in the laying cycle, but our hens are back to laying now! However, the eggs we’ve been getting have been very small. Could this just be the result of stress from the new chickens? Thanks!

My speckled sussex lays pretty small eggs. Though I am pretty sure they are listed as large in the breed profiles. They are small but fine. Have a viable one in the incubator right now. Can't speak on the other breeds.

How old are the ones laying the small eggs? Sometimes when pullets first start laying it can take a week or two for them to start producing normal sized eggs.

1 rhode island reds, 1 wyandotte, and 1 speckled sussex who just started laying. i thought these breeds were supposed to lay large eggs but i’m not sure?

...can take days, week, months for them get up to a 'large' size(or whatever size is normal for that bird).

They are supposed to lay larger eggs but as long as they’re laying i wouldn’t worry as this shows they are comfortable in their new home and are well! The first eggs are always smaller anyway so i would probably put it down to that. They’ll get bigger in time.
