Chicken's leg can turn around backwards.

Found my almost grown chicken laying on her stomach, but one leg was extended and dangles uselessly when I pick her up. I tried gently feeling around it, and found I could turn it all the way backwards. She didn't seem to feel it.
And ideas? Thanks!

It sounds like her leg is broken, and if she can't feel it, that means she has nerve damage. The only thing you could do is amputate the leg. Nerve damage won't heal, and she won't be able to walk on that leg again.

I don't feel any breaks or swelling of any sort, which is why I'm stumped. Should her leg be hot, or cold?

I'm happy to report Legs, the rooster who almost four weeks ago had a leg injury that let me turn the leg around backwards with no visible pain when examining it, is almost fully recovered.
He's play fighting other juvenile roosters, flying from porch railings, and running to me when he sees me.
Someone on here said amputation was the only way, and someone else said a vet was needed. Two weeks of rest in a laundry basket and several slices of watermelon later, then outside cage rest so he could work out his leg, Legs is walking, stepping, and happy to search for treats with full use of his leg.
Happy chicken owning!
