Chickens locked in coop all day

Help! When getting the hens up this morning we didn't unlock the bottom door out into their run, I only realised this when I came to put them to bed. They were trapped in the underneath bit and they had food but NO water! When I realised they had gone all day without water I immediately got them some to drink on the perch, one hen drank lots and meant the others didn't get as much, I will make sure though in funture the door is always opened. Will they be okay having only a few sips of water in a day? Will they die or become very ill? PLEASE COULD SOMEONE HELP AS I AM VERY WORRIED!!

If it was only for one day and they had the option to drink when you came home then they should be fine.

In the long term they will be fine. In the short term they will be fine but you might see a disruption in egg laying. They will get over it.
