Chickens locked out

Scratch and peck layer. They get their own egg shells fed back to them.
I just realized you feed Scratch and Peck. Do you ferment it, or feed the pelleted version? I ask because the powdery fines at the bottom of the bag/feeder is the added vitamis and minerals. Chickens sometimes don't eat these and a have problems. No idea if this is what's happening with your girl, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

She’s eating and drinking on her own now which is a huge turn around from this morning. I don’t usually give wet or fermented feed in winter because it’s so damn cold where I live (NW Colorado) but this is a good point. My other girls have had much stronger egg shells than this hen. I should’ve done more sooner when I noticed them being thinner than ideal. Her feed is wet now and I bought calcium citrate I was just trying to look up how much to crush into the wet feed.

Cut the citrate in half because the pill is very large and will see if I can get her to take the half without crushing

And don't beat yourself up over it. I've made hideous mistakes because I just didn't know what to do. We all do. It sounds to me like she's doing pretty well overall. You did the best thing you could do by taking her to a vet.

That's what mine have done (mostly something I ran into re-integrating broody hens who were starting up laying again). Yours may have either skipped a day or hidden an egg somewhere interesting. Some chickens will also eat eggs laid in weird places eve n if they don't peck at the ones in nests, so it's possible for there to be no evidence. I had a hen lay an egg off the side of my lap once because she wanted hugs more than to go to the nest box, and that stray egg was devoured in minutes, shell and all; if I hadn't seen it I'd never have known.
She laid an egg on your lap! Thats the most precious thing ever. Your lap is more comfy than any ol' nesting box. (Your chicken told me that)🤣❤️

I've had a handful of situations where i thought the hen would die and they wind up being great. The worst when when i had 2 hens develop a swollen eye. Both at different times. I still dont know what it was but my guess is a reaction from something they ate. 🤷‍♀️ both hens are happy healthy hens.

Genny is still with US. She’s eating and drinking on her own. She is not eating to the point of a full crop like my other hens. She goes out on field trips to the flock. Today was the most successful reintroduction the others were less interested in her. When I first introduced back into the flock everyone was very loud the rooster was fascinated by her and she was getting pecked at. Today everyone was much more calm. I’m afraid to leave her out overnight because it’s been so GD cold here. (Lows in low negatives rarely ever above 10) believe it or not that’s not even THAT cold for where I live but since she still isn’t 100% I just worry.

Her butt is still getting poopy and her poops have not returned to normal. She is off meds for now. I’m considering Baytril to try to get her all the way back. Can anyone advise what they would do?
