Chickens make great indoor pets. 1 at a time.

Good for you. When I started riding the senior bus years ago, I met a bona fide chicken lady. She didn't have a computer, so I joined BYC to find out info for her and pass it along.

She has had house chickens for many years. Sometimes just one at a time, otherwise as many as 3 in the house at once. She started with a silkie and then got 2 Serama hens. She allowed the silkie out in the yard because it didn't fly. However the seramas were excellent flyers so they had to stay in the house.

Sadly as a result, the silkie brought "Marek's disease," in with her and all three hens got it, dying one day apart, just before Xmas.

Seramas are among the smallest breeds of chicken, and were bred in Malaysia to be house pets, so they take confinement well.
