So, got these hens from a friend yesterday. They came from a dirt floor coop, so in order to not change EVERYTHING on them, I left the floor of the run dirt. I put wheat straw in the nesting boxes and on the floor of the coop. Last night at dark, all were sleeping on a perch in the run and had not entered the coop for the first time. I went out there this morning and had to laugh.
How I left the coop/run yesterday:
Then this morning:
Then I had to laugh as I looked beside the run. Our great dane had taken the rest of the intact bale and made her a bed as well. It's cute. I worried about her hurting the chicken, but after just one day, she seems to feel as if she's guarding them!
Do I leave the straw on the floor? I ASSUME that's how the chicken want it?
