a friend of mine has 27 week old chickens that still are not laying eggs. Why is this?

They're are probably just not ready to. You don't mention the breed. Some breeds tend to lay earlier than others. Sometimes it'll be 30 weeks or even later before they lay their first egg.

My Russian Orloffs are 24 weeks old and still are not laying. My Brabanters are 1 1/2 and
have not resumed laying since their moult. I'm eggless!

Mine are about 16 months old, and they stopped laying completely 3 weeks ago!

General concensus seems to blame it on the fact that this can be a sign of a bad/cold winter on its way....

yeah, my silkies are still laying, my 4 EEs are 24 weeks and are starting to show signs of laying like squatting every now an then, and my 4 big girls (rir, ausie, BR, and EE) have stopped laying this week, we got like 3 eggs outta the 4 this week when we usually get at least 3 from em a day! so i guess im not alone lol

Yup, Could be any of the 3, not ready !!!! Winter coming !!! Shorter days, less light. I guess all she can do now is WAIT WAIT WAIT !!!!!

I got my first egg at almost 26 weeks. Mine are black sex links - beautiful, healthy and pampered. I wonder if it's a seasonal issue.

It is moulting season.

My hens are going through moult, and I got 3 eggs today, normal average is 23 for me.

You hens may take as long as 31 weeks before they lay, so just give them time.
