there are several breeds that often don't begin laying until after a year. 6 months is the average for most breeds I've researched for my own flock. That's 24 weeks.Ol Grey Mare,
On average, chickens can begin to lay from 16-22 weeks at the latest. It depends on the type of chicken. But, if you suggest over 18 weeks is not a late bloomer, you are entitled to your opinion. One batch of my chickens didn't lay until 21 weeks old.
