Chickens not laying

Ol Grey Mare,
On average, chickens can begin to lay from 16-22 weeks at the latest. It depends on the type of chicken. But, if you suggest over 18 weeks is not a late bloomer, you are entitled to your opinion. One batch of my chickens didn't lay until 21 weeks old.

As are you - even if i is factually inaccurate.

I agree. Silkies, for example, do not lay very well. they are show birds and broodies.

Welcome to BYC!

Depending on what breeds you have, they may not lay until 24 or 28 weeks. Hold off on the layer feed until they start squatting for you, have very red combs and faces or you see that first egg. When you pick up the layer feed, get some oyster shell for them to eat on the side if they need it.

They should be laying pretty soon. I know how hard it is to wait!!
I have 2 buff Sussex , 1 speckled Sussex, and a gold laced Wyandotte
