Hello,

I have a question about a few of our chickens. We have a mixed flock of light and dark Brahmas. 2 light hens 1 light roo and 3 dark hens. lately the dark brahmas hardly leave the coop. They stay perched in the coop all morning and afternoon maybe coming out once or twice a day to eat. Is there a problem or is this normal?

Thanks for the help....

I have little ones that spend a lot of the day in the coop. Mostly because it is cold and muddy outside.
There can be a few different reasons why they won't go out. Weather, for one. If it is cold, or windy they might rather be indoors. Or something outside could have scared them, so now they are afraid to come out. Or,the light ones could be higher on the pecking order, and the dark ones don't go outside for fearof getting pecked.
You didn't mention how old they are? Have they been in this coop for long? Did they used to come out and now wont?

They are 7 months old, and the are always on the perch. They have been in this coop for almost 5 months. They just started laying eggs and that is when they started staying in side. Is there anything I can do to help? Should I put them outside and lock the coop or just let them be?
