one of my hens was pecking at a redish colored egg..do u think that could have something to do with them liking the color red?
 
They definetely see red

They do see in color but don't see well at night in the dark. I have a night light in my coop.

I found this article on chicken vision:
"Though they have excellent color vision, chickens do not see well at night making them vulnerable to predators."
