chickens on back stairs!

Why is it my chickens have a big area to roam all day, but they keep coming up on my back stairs to the deck. I am sitting here next to the door and I have to keep shooing them away. We only ask for a little area out of the whole yard for us, and that's where they always want to be!!!

I know what you're talking about, mine have a half-acre but they choose to hang with us and poop on the chairs.

It must be because we're big ol' treat machines! lol

Mine were always wandering back to my tomatoes and pecking at the ripe ones. No more. I grab the hose and give a quick squirt. Never knew chickens could run so fast!

Try a squirt whenever they go up there and maybe they'll stop. You'll need to keep the hose out anyway with all that pooping going on!

I actually have sprayed them, and they run away and come back in a half hour. They hang around there even if nobody's around. My kids are in the above ground pool, my kids are playing in the pool, lots of water goes over the edge right onto the chickens, (not on purpose the kids don't even know they are there) and the chickens barely even move. I know chickens are stupid, but that stupid?

Is installing one of those accordian child's gates an option? I know you wouldn't want that kind with really little kids around, but I have one to keep the geese from pooping on our deck and eating my potted plants. It's pretty handy.

we are going to put one up at the top of the stair, a child gate because we have a baby that is going to be walking any day now. The problem is not only the stairs, it is down on the grass too, that is where we like to hang out sometimes also.

I already have to hose everything down, and the baby stays on a blanket. The problem is the baby doesn't want to stay on the blanket, and once he starts walking, I don't want him falling down into poop. Or stepping on it.
