So I have been wanting to start a coop for like ever. There is a family of chickens on the side of the freeway (hen and 4 chicks) that seems to be limited in movement. Is it okay to scoop them up and give them a home? Are there any drawbacks to "wild" chickens?

Thanks!

Christopher

One drawback is they may belong to someone else. Your rescuing may be someone else's stealing.

I say, rescue and post a 'found' ad in the local paper...that way, if they are someones you aren't stealing and the chickens will be safer with you then on the highway!

I would say it depends on if there are house near where you see them. The add in the paper is probably a good idea. Also if they are ranging they may have bugs depending on where you live so you may have to check them for that and act accordingly.
