Chickens pecking each other

They’re both one year old, the RIR is molting at the moment
The area they’re in is kind of small but they’ve been able to deal with it for a while.
Did this behavior really start back up when you noticed the RIR molting?
Molting birds can act really odd at times.
Add another feed container to see if that helps.

When molting some get depressed, some withdrawn, and some just get mean. I think it might be a combination of the molting and having cramped quarters. What is the size of your chicken pen? How many feet by how many feet?

I’m not sure how many feet, but they’re inside. We let them out almost everyday to get extra air and roam around a little bit before it gets dark

hi,let the chickens out this morning ,blood and feathers on the floor .thought something had got in coop ,cleaned all up put de on floor then heard chickens squawking ,one running I realised the pecking order is changing .top chicken is moulting later than other two.i think some of it is boredom so I managed to make them a small extention they are quiet now but tomorrow is another day !

This is their first molt, but yes the behavior did start again when she began molting. I added a second container today I hope it works out.

Currently I cant but I believe it’s about 2-3 feet long. They deal with this much area just fine because we let them outside most of the time.

Depending on how much space that is, they can get on one another's nerves especially during molting. Even though they are outside during the day, the nights are longer so they are spending a bit more time together roosting, so they could feel a bit cramped.

Hopefully once the RIR feathers in, then her behavior will straighten out.
