Hi everyone, so we have a flock of five hens and two days ago a chicken was dumped at our house so we have ofcourse taken her in. We believe her to be arouns 6 months old and shes quite big so after inital introductions she was mixed into the flock. Two of our chickens , the higher up ones of the group, Olive and Cleo are just screaming at her. They’re not going for her but just won’t shut up basically. The three others haven’t paid any attention to her. I have had to bring the new hen into the house and take her outside every few hours and its still the same. Last night they seemed to calm down so we left her in the coop. Well at 4am they were screaming so had to bring her in. Just wondering whats going on? We have introduced quite a few chickens and never had anything like this before. Is there anything I can do that may help? They are quiet now but shes hiding so think thats why thanks !

Can you post photos of the new chicken? If it is white there is a fairly good chance it is a Cornish X chick somewhere around 6 to 8 weeks old that was on its way to be butchered. It might help in your integration to know what you are dealing with.

It sounds like the dominant hens are the new chick know who's boss. Sometimes they use intimidation for that, not just pecking. But that could change. Basically you have an integration to go through. How that works and what you need to do will depend on the maturity level and maybe sex of that chicken, the personality of the chickens involved, and how much room you have to work with. I don't know any of that.
