Hey everyone, I hope you are having a great day! I need some help figuring out how to get my two buff Orpingtons out of the nesting boxes at night. Roosts are not the problem though because I have roosts set up all around the coop some in high spots and some in low spots. The problem is that they make a mess in it each night which forces me to have to clean it out before they should lay. If anyone has ever had this problem or knows how to fix this problem please help me because I could really use some help!
Thanks :)

Block off the nesting box at night.
Slip something in there - a box, anything that will make it hard for them to get in.
Okay, I thought about putting a piece of scrap wood over the entrance so they can't get in just didn't know if it was the most reasonable thing to do. Thank you for your input.

How old are these birds?
Post pics of your coop showing nests and roosts, please.

I agree with everyone else. Use cardboard to block them off when not in use if you can, but, are they broody? Just an interesting guess. BOs are pretty darn broody so if they have been hanging in the nesting boxes a lot then that could be a possibility.
No, they are not broody they just like to stay in the nesting boxes together.
