Chickens sleeping in the nesting boxes

What does “flat feet” mean then ?

I have to assume she meant that they can sleep with their feet flat? I'm not the writer so you'd have to ask for specifics over there.

Article didn’t say what type of birds they had. They could of had bantams, which in that case would be able to roost with flat feet on that large branch.

I don't know what type of birds she has. I only have standard birds and my branches are a little over 2" in diameter, similar to what's shown in Ridgerunner's second photo on post #7. Yes they grip and hang on all night just fine. I've never had a bird refuse to use the roost.

Round roosts/ flat roosts. Both are great. I was talking about roosts that chickens actually have to grip onto .
. Flat or larger rounded roosts help the chicken comfortably sit with its feet flat allowing them to cover their feet with their bodies preventing them from getting frostbite. :)

Roosts like this is what I was going against

Hen would have to have her toes on the under side of the branch to prevent her from falling off.
Her body can’t cover her toes if her toes are on the underside of the roost, therefore her toes are exposed to frost bite.
Of course that depends on the weather in your area
