Chickens sleeping on top of coop

Either their roosts are too small in size(the mop handle) and/or there's not quite enough roost length for them.
I'd go with a bigger roost then you might have to force them in there for a few nights until the get the new habit down.

I think mine just like the highest place to roost and that is the top Of their coop. Today I put some objects on top so they would hopefully avoid going on top and so far......all of them are in there coop. :lol:Yay!

I have the same problem! My chickens refuse to go in the coop. They fly up to the top and want to sleep there. I wasn't worried about it and thought they were safe (they're in a fenced orchard) until either a fox got under the fence or maybe an owl flew over and grabbed one (???) but I lost one the other night. So... now I have to go out there and pluck them off the roof and throw them in the coop. Annoying!!

I think mine were scared of something. I started putting them in every night and locking them in, also upgraded their roost. After a week or 2 they started going in by themselves.
