Chickens Still Thirsty

Put a couple of bricks in the shallow pans so smaller birds can get back out of deep water and over edge of pan to dry land.

I have a 5 gallon double walled galvanized waterer in the run.

+1 on the galvanized waterer. They stay pretty clean and don't need to be refilled very often.

My ladies can't seem to figure out the nipple waterer! They were crazy thirsty & stopped laying...I had to give them back the galvanized waterers after just a few hours. Can't have thirsty ladies, can we?

Mine were just so messy with the free standing waterers. But I'm wondering if a big heavy one like that would prevent them from spilling

I have 4 layers and 6 replacement birds. I clean and fill the double walled waterer every Wednesday, and Saturday....well if it's been hot that week.

One big problem I had was them spilling the water in their bedding, causing such a terrible mess. Now that the water is outside, I might be willing to switch back because they won't be able to knock over 10lbs of water

When their in the brooder, I put the waterer on a brick to lift it up off the bottom. But once they start scratching...this is usually what I have to deal with.....

They just take that waterer and fill it up with wood shavings. It becomes an everyday chore...more on the weekends when I'm around to attend more regularly.

Outside in the run, I raise the waterer off the ground onto a drop screen. This keeps everything a lot cleaner and healthier for the birds.

Those nipple water ears have never seemed natural to me. They don't look like a chicken would get enough of a drink. To me, a drop at a time just would not do it. Personally I would never use this type of waterer.

Looks can deceiving.

Commercial farms use these with great success.
