Chickens stolen at Martha's Vinyard fair

I for one will never show my birds again. I had my best SQ Splash Silkie hen stolen at a show in Delaware. This has totally ruined showing for me. Watch out, there are a lot of low-life scumbag thieves out there! This world is becoming a terrible place, and it's only getting worse. People's morals and consience are going down the drain.

) But, really, it was a shame... That was one beautiful hen too!

I know I've brought this up before but why are they stealing the chickens, I just don't the percentage in it?

I could just smack the people who would do this. I'm debating to put locks and zipties on my cages now when I show. I put alot of time, effort, and my hardearned money into my birds. I dont understand why someone would have the guts to do this.

Money, greed, and too lazy to work for it them self. With the poor economy and the price that show class birds bring it is not hard to understand why. The hard part is how to put a stop to it. Thieves look for profit and opportunity the cages probably should be required to have locks.

Well the article says they were white bantams, four of them, and that "several" had already won blue ribbons...
I would think that they were probably Silkies since they are so common showing wise, especially with kids.

We've all seen how high the price of quality silkie eggs can go, I bet you someone is thinking they are going to make some good $$$$ with them.

*sigh* poor kids. What a world.
I stopped showing goats at fairs when they got ringworm.
I plan to start showing birds again next year, maybe I should tattoo or microchip them. If I recall, we locked cages back when my son was in 4H. Hmmm, are locks enough protection?
DH sez "you gotta be a twisted individual to steal somebody's chickens"

I would never even think to steal! I just was raised like that. I think they were silkies as well! I just hope they get caught cause that is just wrong

That's so weird.
At the fair we just had, a cow escaped and was missing for a couple days. There was a hundred dollar reward out for it. I really thought someone was just gonna use it for free beef, but it was actually returned.

That's so sad about the chickens.
