My chickens (Rhode Island Reds) were laying eggs daily until Thanksgiving, and then mounted. One had started laying an egg every other day, but my hubby inadvertently locked them out of their nests on recent 1 week trip (plenty of food, water). Now NO EGGs, even though fully feathered and days lengthening and WARM. They are exactly 2 years old. Any ideas?

It's not hubby's fault. After my hens molt they don't lay for a month or 2 or sometimes 3. Depending on their age and breed some chickens take longer to recover than others.

We are having a similar issue with one of our Americanas. She stopped laying over Labor Day while we were out of town and had house sitters. She hasn't laid an egg since! 4 months! We wondered if she had some scare or issue while we were gone. Her companions are all fine though. She is about 14 months old and started laying last April. Is something wrong with her? She is the biggest and smartest of our little 4 hen flock. She just acts just she just doesn't feel like laying! They free range, but I have searched everywhere and haven't found anything in the yard either. Thoughts??
