chickens, turkeys & ducks, oh my

Hi!! I love your harleys! I have 2 that are 7 years old, and still laying eggs. (occasionally) Welcome to BYC!!
I started with 4 Harlequins, one drake named Sir Francis Quack and 3 girls : Snow White, Rose Red and Golden Girl. Poor Sir Francis was carried off by a fox, so last year I got Silver Apple Yards and Pekins. I kept the smallest Pekin drake as a breeder. Currently I have 3 Appleyards, 1 pekin duck, and 3 Harleys. (Also the very busy drake) One of the Appleyards went broody around May 11th (and I should have whisked her away with 10-12 eggs to a brooder crate at that point but I didn't. I marked her eggs with sharpie and let her set in the duck house and pretty soon another Appleyard was sort of setting with her. And, then the third. Totally my bad. But we will see how it goes. One eggs was pipped this morning. Fingers crossed.

Just saying HELLO back to everyone that said HELLO! and Welcome!.
And posting a few pics of the ridiculous communal duck nest that I let happen again this year.
1. Matilda, foreground, started this nest but her bossy sis, Maude, a very beautiful and very silver Silver Appleyard, has practically buried her with all the rearranging of the nest.
2. Now, there are three.
3. I hate to tell you, but Mini (left) has appropriated most of the eggs and poor Tildy doesn't seem to have any under her at this point. The girls didn't like me taking pictures of them and were making such a ruckus that our resident drake, Doh!, just had to look in and sort of, maybe protect his harem by giving me the side eye. (Lucky he's not a gander or I would have been pinched.)
