I'm sure I'm just over worrying but thought I'd check with the experts here just to make sure!
Last night our power went out shortly after we went to bed and when we woke up this morning all of our light fixtures with smart bulbs controlled by Alexa were ON in the house -including the inside coop light and the lights in the chicken run. When I checked the coop cam it looked like power came back on at 10:30pm and from footage they were up all night long running around in the coop and attached run having a party. Oops! 😬
Will this cause any long term harm??

If the bulbs, and/or Alexa, were truly smart they would have remained in their pre-outage condition. :gig

We have the coop lights using a smart plug. We have had a couple occasions where the lights have not turned on. So the girls get to sleep in. I agree that one hiccup in the schedule is not the end of the world. But for next year I will rework the wireless to improve reliability of the schedule.

You might be able to create a routine with Alexa, to set a certain preferred state. Will think about that for a while. Or maybe you have an existing routine that is the culprit.

Thanks! I have a routine set to turn the coop and run lights on right at dusk for a bit and then they turn off later. If there is a way to prevent all the lights from turning on after a power outage I'd love to know how but I'm afraid it may not be possible since the light switches the bulbs are on are set to the "on" position all the time.

Still thinking about setting to original state.

But, I find our chickens at this time of year go in on their own, with no need for light at dusk. For us that means they are in by 4pm. dusk is about 5pm. The setting as you suggest would leave them out when all light is gone without getting safely on the roost.
