The other day I donated eggs to a school in our town to incubate for the kids. She asked me today to come talk to them about chickens, so I decided to take some chickens for them to see. I took 2 cochin bantams a leghorn and an EE. Most of these kids had never seen a chicken except on TV. They loved it. I also took an incubator cause the teachers wasnt working right. Tonight my neighbor who works at the school came home with thank you notes from the kids. One of the girls thanked me for bringing the awsome beautiful eyepopping chickens

another thanked me for bringing the egg-u-bator (loved that one) It was a good day. I also got the chickens a new roost built. DD and I did it ourselves and it only cost 4.56 to build it. Thank you Menards for the discount wood bin.

I'm hoping some will grow up and think about raising chickens. We talked about the horrors of factory egg farms vs backyard chickens. These were 6th graders. Alot said they didnt want to eat eggs from the store knowing how the chickens are treated. Some said they didnt want to eat chicken after holding my cochins. They asked lots of intelligent questions. I really hope they have a good hatch they are really fired up about seeing the chicks hatch and how such a small egg can aactually hold a chicken. Somw were asking to take a chick home but I told them no That before they got chickens they had to do lots of research and all the things they would need. My DD had I really had fun. And my DD thanked me for raising her the way I did. She said it amazes her that things she was taught she though all kids knew and most dont have a clue.
