Chickens who HATE snow?

Went to the coop at 7:30 a.m. to clean, etc. Shoveled the snow and ice in the pen and put down hay and they immediately came outside for a little while. Now, they are in and out. They are not hating it as badly as yesterday, but I AM !!

Snowing again here today. About half the girls trudged out through the snow and headed right into my garage (their refuge in really bad weather).
Two walked out of the coop, and as soon as their feet touched the snowy ground, shot up in the air as though their feet had been electrocuted :) Pretty funny sight. I carried 4 girls across the path from the coop to the garage.

Yes, they are spoiled rotten.

Ours are very babied as well. Between the kids and I. But they are also saavy to be on their own a bit too when the white stuff goes away. OH they are so much fun!

I have always thought that they feel exposed. The snow trail in our yard are over a foot deep and they would be easy pickins for a hawk.

I live in Canada, so we get ALOT of snow. My chickens actually LOVE eating the snow. Especially the little ice chunks they find. The smaller chickens will shake their feet more often when they get cold, and will go back inside their coop to warm up their feet. When one of my girls sees another girl eating the snow, they get curious and taste the snow themselves so they don't miss out of the great tasting stuff. :) When there is a lot of snow of my hen's beak, she will stay perfectly still, as another hen eats the snow off. My girls don't drink as much water in the winter as they do in the summer, so snow is an alternative, and is a hydrating solid they can eat. Hopefully your girls get used to the snow soon :)
