Hi, I have a Hens with Allergies I believe they clear runny noses not raspy breathing or congestion did antibiotics already that didn't help. Eating and Drinking playing acting totally normal So I was wondering how much Benadryl I can put in their water without doing any harm to my chickens? I have Benadryl tablets 25mg so do I need to get the Childrens Benadryl if so what's the dosing for that?? I also live in Florida so allergies are pretty bad here. Let me know Thank you 🐓🐔🐔🐓

I very much doubt it's allergies. What kind of bedding or nesting material do you use? Dust can be an issue, their respiratory systems are sensitive. It' is more likely a respiratory illness, or dust or possibly fungal. Many respiratory illnesses are chronic and symptoms will recur periodically, particularly in times of stress.
I would not dose regularly with benadryl, and I would only use it in a case where there was truly a serious allergic reaction to something. 1/2 ml childrens benadryl only. Do not overdose.

Hi @coach723 I use dirt for bedding always have I got them maybe 2-3 weeks ago they are in a separate stall away from everyone else they are small Old English Game Bantams. How long should I do antibiotics for I have them on that still?

Since these are new birds, I would suspect a respiratory illness. Moving can bring hidden illness to the surface (stress). I would keep them quarantined and if you have an avian vet I would see if they can identify the illness. Some of them are chronic, and even once the symptoms abate, they can still spread it to the rest of your flock. Depending on the cause, treatment only takes care of the symptoms, the birds are carriers for life. So knowing what it is, would be best. That would also determine the best treatment options and how long to treat. I personally, would call the person you got them from, ask questions, and take them back if possible.

@coach723 they are separated like 50 feet from my other Flock I heard it only spreads to your flock if you put them right away with your healthy flock not keep them quarantined and was healthy when I got them none of these issues I'm thinking stress and unfortunately I don't have a Bird vet in my area I am doing antibiotics how many days should I continue antibiotics? I was going to keep them in where they are at now not going with my flock. And I don't think they will take them back plus I am attached to them already

If I were bringing in new birds I would quarantine for 30 days, far enough away that they can't even breathe the same air. Some illnesses are gotten by contact with droppings, shared feeders and waterers, feather dust, etc., some are airborne. Also can be spread on shoes and clothing when going from one pen to another. Your others may already have been exposed that way. Birds are often gotten that appear healthy and show no symptoms, only to start having symptoms after arriving at the new home. The stress of the move, new place, new everything will often trigger symptoms.
Not knowing what you are treating for, or with what, in general, tetracycline antibiotics are often used for respiratory symptoms and I would say at least 10 days.

All my Flock already went through Upper Respiratory last year had to treat them the same way so they are probably okay theses new ones are no wear near my others so I believe all is good but didn't hear no sneezing when I checked on them but also they are next to our horse bedding that is sawdust could that be making them sneeze also?

I just give mine “Magic Water “ and their allergies clear up. Be sure to use local honey ! They less often you have to medicate your babies, the better.... well just my opinion 🥰
