Our small flock of now 3 chickens has been contained to their coop for the Summer and early Fall. The rest of the year they are free range all the time. We live in the city and space is a premium; we can't grow anything if they are out. We finally got them contained after they have been escaping the walls of the run by flying over; we have clipped their wings, but they still flew over. Now all three are non-stop pacing the part of the run that faces our yard.

Will this fade over time? Will they give up eventually?
Are there things to do to entertain them or distract them?
Make them happier in their run?

Hello doturbanhen!

That is normal. Mine do that too. Just put some toys involving food in their yard. When they pace, that means they see food outside of the coop they want. Like a bug flying around.
Here's a toy: Get a few water bottles, fill them up with chicken treats or feed, then poke small holes in them, so the chickens can try to get the food. It worked on mine!
