I have a chicken, and she isn’t eating much or drinking anything. Yesterday she was doing fine, but today when i went out to my coop she wasn’t moving much. She let me pick her up e without a problem. We thought it might be because she was brooding. When we lifted her up her under belly was really red, and was missing feathers.

Welcome to BYC. Do you have any pictures of her belly? How old is she? Does she usually lay eggs? Is she low in the pecking order or bullied? Has she been acting broody, for example, has she pulled out her chest feathers, pulling eggs under her, staying in a nest box? Can you get her drinking some fluids, and offer some cooked egg and wet chicken feed up to her beak?

we got her off of someone so i do not know how old she is. she does normally lay eggs, i don’t ever notice any feathers missing off her belly except for today. i haven’t seen her sitting on the eggs. This morning she was in the nesting box wasn’t moving much, but then a couple hours later i went to check on her to see if she was doing better and she was in the same nesting box. i’d say she doesn’t get bullied, when we first introduced them they did fight a little but they don’t anymore

She looks skinny. She may well be broody or sick, but the feather loss may be from plucking them herself. Will she pull an egg underneath her? Do you know what is on her toes? Are they scabbed or is that mud? I would probably break her now if she is broody. That is done in a wire dog crate or similar with no bedding. If she is not broody, I would feed and water her often, and keep her in the crate. Look her over for mites and lice, and consider worming her.

she doesn’t pull eggs under her. Her toes they are a little muddy. we have her in a separate crate away from the other chickens. she is also kind of breathing very heavy. i did give her food and water in her crate and she didn’t look too interested in drinking or eating any of it!
