I have a question i bought 3 chickens they are 2yrs old i have had them for almost 3weeks and no eggs yet can it take longer for them to lay? And also can chickens molt during the summer? This is my first time having chickens so i dont know how long it will be before they lay eggs or if they are done

I have a Rhode island a gold lay hen and the other one is black with speckles on it i dont know what kind she is

I think 2 of them are molting they are loseing feathers on the back if there head and i have been seeing feathers. On the ground i was told they shouldnt be molting durin. The summer

Do you have a rooster that is overbreeding them - they usually grab them around the back of the head

No they are for egg layers. My other question is were they sleep and roost is 5Sq feet is that big enough for 4 chickens it might be a little bigger i have 2 nesting boxes

They could be stressed. Also my oldest 2 year olds will take long breaks in between egg laying. At 2 is When their laying starts slowing down. Or if they free range, they are laying outside the nest box in a good hiding place!

I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting ANY brown eggs, just blue and green last couple weeks. Well, my dogs one day found a huge pile of all brown eggs and another small pile. One in our back woods and the other under the neighbors pine tree, which he has several. I have a hen that lays in a special spot in the garage too. I have about 6 brown layers and 7 blue and green layers. Soon I'll have 4 more layers(3 blue and one brown) that will start to lay. Chickens are addicting!

Good luck! I hope you figure it out. Also, they won't lay if they are not getting enough protein or food.

! Great to have you aboard! It seems like yours should be laying by now. Chickens generally molt in their second autumn - mine here in KS do so in November it seems. Hope they start back soon. Good luck to you!
